AREA’S OF INVESTMENT
Ngāti Whare Holdings Limited has a diverse portfolio. The Company operates with strategy of making direct investments in primary sector activities and diversifying its exposure where possible. In recent years the company has grown significantly from having several managed funds, forestry, fisheries investments to also having several complementary primary industry subsidiaries.
Minginui Nursery was established by Ngāti Whare in 2016 and is a purely native tree nursery specialising in revegetation plants. The idea to establish a native tree nursery was developed from the need to regenerate 640 hectares of the Whirinaki Forest from pine to native.The Nursery is located in the heart of Minginui, surrounded by Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne where the majority of the nursery seeds are sourced.
With the capacity to produce over 1,000,000 plants per year the nursery is able to supply pure cold-hardy natives on a commercial scale. Utilising rapid propagation technology developed with Scion, Minginui Nursery is combining Tikanga Māori and Science to support a new sustainable indigenous forest industry in New Zealand.

In 2009, Ngāti Whare joined a confederation of eight iwi from the Central North Island region to finalise the CNI Forests Iwi Collective Settlement. This resulted payment of accumulated rentals, license fees, carbon credits, preferred rights and a shareholding of CNI Iwi Holdings Limited. The company holds 176,000 ha of the CNI forest land, with the actual land holding by iwi to be determined by mana whenua.
In 2014, Ngāti Whare joined six other iwi to create Kakano Investment Limited Partnership. The collective purchased a 2.5% stake in New Zealand’s largest forestry business, Kaingaroa Timberlands. The venture has been a financial success but also ensured iwi were involved in the forestry business itself as well as being the land owner.
Established by Ngāti Whare in 2018, Whare Honey produces premium pure New Zealand honey and is based in Te Awamutu. At Whare Honey, they are passionate about producing quality, raw and unpasteurised honey and beeswax products. Our beekeepers have a raw passion for bees and honey production – this together with their expertise as apiarists creates the perfect environment for quality, ecofriendly and socially responsible honey. Shipping is available world wide for Whare Honey products which include 100+, 200+ and 300+ Mānuka, Kānuka, Wildflower and Clover honey.
In November 2018 , Ngāti Whare entered into a Limited Partnership with Darling Family Investment Trust and Franklin Investment Trust to purchase Goldland Avocado Orchard. The Goldland Avocado Orchard is a well-established, high producing orchard situated in Ngataki in the far north and is a 24.9 hectare parcel of land comprising of approximately 14 planted (canopy) hectares. The orchard is managed by Darling Group who are recognized as leaders in orchard management, processing, and sale of Avocados and other fresh fruit.

NZ Wool Dumping Group
In April 2019, Ngāti Whare entered into a Limited Partnership with Steve Harrison and David Ferrier to purchase New Zealand Wool Dumping Group. This business is the sole New Zealand provider of wool dumping (compaction) services which processes approximately 220,000 wool bales a year. The business is also the sole manufacturer and supplier of the metal bands used in both the scouring and dumping of all NZ produced wool and owns and recycles used wool bales. Both David Ferrier and Steve Harrison are recognized leaders in the wool processing industry and Ngāti Whare is very pleased to be in business with them.
As well as holding shares in Moana New Zealand, Crayfish and Paua, Ngāti Whare Holdings Limited is also a member of the Iwi Collective Partnership. The collective is a voluntary collaboration of 20 iwi fisheries companies from around the North Island of New Zealand and partners with Sealoard, Moana New Zealand, Port Nicholson Fisheries and Pelco.
In March of 2020, Ngāti Whare Holdings Limited was proud to see their CEO, Mere George be appointed as the Chair of the Iwi Collective Partnership.
